Milwaukee Lakefront Family Session
Late Summer Sessions Feel Different—in the Best Way
Late summer family sessions always have a little extra magic.
The colors are softer than peak summer but not quite fall. Kids are still in that carefree summer rhythm. Evenings stay warm enough to be comfortable without feeling hot. And the golden hour light over Lake Michigan tends to be especially dreamy.
It feels like the in-between season before routines shift again.
That’s part of why I love photographing families this time of year—it holds onto the slowness of summer while quietly making room for what’s next.
Planning Your Own Bay View Park Family Session
If you’re thinking about scheduling family photos at Bay View Park or somewhere along Lake Michigan, late summer into early fall is one of my favorite times to do it.
A few tips:
Neutral tones, linen, denim, and soft earthy colors photograph beautifully against the lake.
Barefoot on the shoreline is always welcome.
Sunset timing gives us the best light—especially for golden hour photos over the water.
Don’t stress about kids sitting still. Movement is part of the magic.
